Expansion of Viracopos Airport will be made in 5 phases

The dealership Aeroportos Brasil Viracoposl, who takes the bid to operate the Viracopos International airport, said the expansion work should begin this month (august).

The dealership is awaiting a specific environmental license, which must be released by the a local Companhia de Tecnologia de Saneamento Ambiental (Cetesb) and then start the work.

The process is being finalized. The environmental company had already issued a preliminary license earlier this year certifying that the project was environmentally viable.

The dealership consists of three companies: Egis, Triumph and UTC. The expectation is that the plan be approved later this month of August, and the dealership has a term of 90 days to take Viracopos permanently.

The expansion of the airport will be made in 5 stages. The first is the construction of a new terminal with capacity for 14 million passengers per year, which will quadruple the current capacity, scheduled to be completed before the 2014 World Cup.

The investment plan within 30 years of grant is $ 8.4 billion and includes the construction of an airport city with hotels, convention center and shopping.
