The Viracopos International Airport, located in Campinas, SP, was ranked as the third best airport in the country on terms of accessibility for passengers.
The data were collected by the master Ligia Cesteiro Coelho, a student of Engineering, from University of São Paulo (USP), which performs this survey since 2011, pointing out the aspects that should be improved.
The airport was behind Congonhas in Sao Paulo and Galeao in Rio de Janeiro. This, first on the global index of accessibility.
The research was done in order to access temporary or permanent disabilities. Among subjects who fit into these groups are visually impaired, wheelchair users, foreigners, pregnant women, the elderly and passengers with or without baggage.
Viracopos achieved the highest score in the country concerned of parking spaces to cater for the disabled, but many other aspects need to be improved.
The airport concessionaire intends to invest in better infrastructure, and already applied about $ 69 million in improvements.
