Azul Airlines estimates damage at $ 10 million per incident in Viracopos

The Azul Linhas Aéreas estimates a damage of at least R$ 10 million due to the closure of Viracopos Airport in Campinas for 45 hours between Saturday and Monday, 13th and October 15th, respectively. The calculations do not take into account the lawsuits filed by some clients.

The reason for the closure of the airport was a cargo plane from Centurion Cargo, which presented problems in the landing gear and stood at only track of Viracopos. Due to the weight of the aircraft, about 130 tons, its removal had to rely on special equipment, which arrived long after the accident.

About 25,000 Azul clients were affected with the problem. ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) provides a number of rights for passengers faced as lodging and food, which must be borne by the company.

The company has not yet ruled on whether to bring a lawsuit against Infraero, since the airport operator is responsible for normalizing the situation in cases like these, where the airline (Centurion Cargo) was unable to effect the removal of the aircraft and release the track.
